Job Description Summary
The Neurosurgery Clinical Research Division (NCRD) seeks a full- time, registered Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) to support the department's research endeavors. The selected candidate will primarily serve the brain tumor core, but could cross over into other Neurosurgery studies. The selected candidate will be integral to the team, working under the guidance of Physician Investigators and collaborating closely with other members of the study team. The successful candidate will comply with all policies relating to UPHS, JCAHO, GCP and other regulatory standards. This position will be primarily based at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and Perelman Center for Advance Medicine (PCAM). The position includes managing unit clinical research nursing including screening, enrollment, and monitoring of study participants, review results from study related procedures such as laboratory testing, administration of the Investigational or study specific medication, completion of source documents and case report forms, documenting and reporting of non-serious and serious adverse events, preparation and assistance during monitoring visits and audits, and sponsor reporting. The successful candidate will act in lead capacity for the nursing aspects of study protocols including overseeing and participation of in-services to other nurses, providers, and allied health personnel within the health system, delegate to research coordinators/assistants who provide study related support.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper screening and enrollment of all study participants, including administering informed consent and confirming subject study eligibility prior to participation
  • Ensure proper reporting of serious and non-serious adverse events to the Sponsor and all applicable institutional or study related committees and personnel according to applicable regulations and policies
  • Coordinate the administration of the investigational product and study related medications including obtaining orders, scheduling administration dates, administration of investigational and study related medications (as applicable), monitoring subjects for post-administration adverse events or reactions
  • Meet with Principal Investigator routinely to discuss study related issues and to ensure completion of study related procedures. Ensure preparation of all required study related documents for submission to all applicable institutional committees for review and approval to start trial.
  • Ensure preparation of study related document templates (e.g., visit guides, source document templates), subject study binders, regulatory binders (hard and electronic version), patient list (enrollment log) for study start up
  • Manage scheduling and coordination of subject study specified treatment, follow-up visits and procedures. Manage collection of data from source documents pertaining to study visits and transcribe to case report form, including concomitant medications and adverse events
  • Assist with protocol development to ensure logistical feasibility of all study related procedures and study work-flow
  • Orient and mentor new unit staff and function as resource for current staff
  • Develop and maintain ongoing communication with the clinical teams such as laboratory, infusion, radiology, oncology, triage, inpatient and pharmacy.
  • Provide in-service training and support throughout the health system to implement protocols across various environments including CHPS, perioperative, and inpatient settings as needed. Additionally, deliver continuous education updates to investigators and health system personnel who are involved with eligible participants in clinical research trials
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator (PI) and study team to develop a research nursing plan of care adhering to research guidelines and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards. Coordinate activities among the care team to ensure comprehensive subject care and subject safety and well-being. Oversee or directly administer study medications including chemotherapeutic drugs, biologics, cellular immunotherapies, and other treatment agents or study interventions as required.

  • Registered Nurse; licensure in Commonwealth of PA without restriction or limitation and 4 to 5 years of experience; BSN preferred
