Job Summary/Basic Function
The General Counsel will serve as the University’s in-house legal counsel and advise all administrators, faculty, and staff, as necessary, on all matters having legal implications for the University. This position reports to the President of the University, acts as his or her advisor in all matters of a legal nature, and represents the University’s interests.
Specific Responsibilities
Required Relevant Education & Experience
A Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from an ABA-accredited law school with and admitted to the Bar of the Indiana Supreme Court or eligible for admission by reciprocity. A minimum of 5 years experience with knowledge of relevant laws (including employment law), regulations, and knowledge of best practices and experience working in higher education. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and collaborate with Board of Trustee members, senior leadership team and across a diverse stakeholder group.
